Taking a break from all the fan art. I had to do a project where we had to depict a scene in the Odyssey, so I was like: "Why not draw a scene with monsters in it?" Gotta love drawing monsters.
Anyway, Scylla is usually depicted as a woman with twelve, spindly legs and six dog heads around her waist. I was going to attempt that at first, but the initial sketch looked boring; the composition was incredibly weak, and trying to draw a woman with six dog heads and twelve arms just seemed way to ambitious. I only have a week left to do this, so I have to think of something simpler, I thought. Luckily, Scylla could also be depicted as a hydra-like creature, so I decided to take that option instead.
I did this all in one layer on Photoshop CS5. Took me about ten hours. I thought this was going to take several days, but nope! I thought this project would've been a good time for me to attempt a more painterly-like style, a style that does not require as much sketching. This ended up being a pretty quick method, as opposed to just sketching it out. Gotta try it again someday. Painting grey scale+overlay colors= awesome and relatively quick technique, if done right haha.
